About the operator
Complex systems don’t scare me. They give me a map to draw.
I’m Raykell Foster, a California-based, bilingual systems and IT operations professional. For more than two decades, I’ve worked where infrastructure, identity, security, automation, and people meet.
I’m usually the person who sees a tangled workflow and reaches for a whiteboard before reaching for the panic button.
The short version
I make complicated systems feel calm.
That means understanding the real problem before automating it, making security easier to follow, and designing operations that do not depend on one heroic person remembering everything.
I learn by getting close to the system: mapping it, testing it, writing down what I discover, and turning each lesson into something reusable. This portfolio is part résumé and part public lab notebook—a place to share the work, the reasoning, and the occasional useful rabbit hole.
The career arc
From packets to people to platforms.
The tools changed. The pattern did not: understand the system, find the friction, and make the next step clearer.

Learn the machinery
Networks taught me to stay curious under pressure.
I started close to the infrastructure: Cisco wireless, routing and switching, network operations, and technical sales engineering. Troubleshooting live systems taught me to look for signals, test assumptions, and keep a clear head when the answer is not obvious yet.

Connect systems to people
The work became as human as it was technical.
Desktop support, office infrastructure, relocations, and data-center coordination widened the map. Later, leading a bilingual screening team for Latin American technologists showed me how much good operations depends on translation—not only between English and Spanish, but between people, expectations, and technical reality.

Build the operating system
I moved from solving tickets to improving how teams solve them.
As a network engineer, systems administrator, team lead, and virtual IT manager, I handled escalations across varied client environments while improving documentation, onboarding, service practices, and ownership. The goal shifted from being the person with the answer to helping the whole team find it faster.

Design for calm
Identity, automation, and security became one connected system.
In distributed environments, I have built and supported identity lifecycle workflows, SaaS integrations, endpoint compliance, Device Trust, incident response, and security evidence operations. Today I am exploring how agentic and AI-assisted tools can remove toil without removing judgment, context, or a human fallback.

How I work
Small milestones beat big panic.
Calm is not the absence of a difficult problem. It is what happens when the problem has a shape, the decisions are visible, and everyone knows what comes next.
- 01
Start with what—and why.
Before choosing a tool, I clarify what the system needs to accomplish and why it matters to the people relying on it.
- 02
Make the problem smaller.
Complexity is less intimidating when it becomes a sequence of understandable chunks, testable assumptions, and useful milestones.
- 03
Leave the system calmer.
A solution should be secure, documented, observable, and maintainable by someone other than the person who built it.
Best working conditions
Good problems, thoughtful people, room to improve the system.
I do my best work with collaborative, distributed teams that value direct communication, documentation, and steady improvement. I’m especially useful when growth has made a once-simple process messy.
- Identity, endpoint, SaaS, and security workflows with brittle handoffs
- Repeated manual work that needs careful, human-aware automation
- Incidents and escalations that need calm diagnosis and clear ownership
- Teams that want durable documentation, mentoring, and shared context
